The beginning...

Ok, first entry. Starting this up mainly for my own use - to track and document projects, repairs, and my big dreams for my old - very old- house. A little history to start -

Here's the ol' house:

She was built back in 1868 as the main house on a 200 acre farm (according to the neighbors). Stacked sandstone foundation. I can't tell if the house as it currently stands was built all at the same time, or if the single story addition on the backside was added at a later date. The foundation changes where the single story section abuts the two story part, but it's still stacked sandstone, so it's difficult to tell...

The previous owner's did lots of work to the place. New windows in many openings, although many still contain very old (and non-functional) windows for sure. They built a master suite out in the attic, re-worked the back entry to the house adding a 1/2 bathroom. New wiring throughout with new-ish panel. Roof was re-shingled (asphalt) probably within past 7-10 years. Exterior finish - from what I've been able to uncover - is an asbestos shingle over rigid foam insulation about 1" - 1-1/2" thick, over a 1" thick wood plank exterior that runs horizontal. Exterior trim in many areas is in real bad shape... particularly the fascia and soffit of the front and back wrap around porches. These are slowly sinking off the house, and will be one of the projects that I document here.
While they were focusing on the house the grounds became overgrown with wild grape, honeysuckle, and some really gnarly thorn bushes. We've done some clearing over the past year and a half, and the results are starting to pay off. We have a little over 3 acres to work with, all on a hill for the most part. There's a bank barn (built with house) that needs a ton of work, which I will also document here.

So that's that. I think the first item on the list is the wrap up of the master tub/shower overhaul I did over the past year or so. Yes...it is still ongoing, although bath and shower have been operational (and in use!) for several months now.... so it's technically done - right?
